FORT BEND COUNTY WOMEN’S CENTER
2010 PRESIDENT’S AWARD – PROGRAMS

This volunteer came to us with a wonderful new idea – bring a therapy dog to the Shelter once a week and let the kids enjoy loving on him and getting love back! Her therapy dog, Whopper, is also trained to sit and listen to the children read to him so they can improve their skills. She and Whopper provide a calm presence for children whose lives have been in chaos. Recently the staff was surprised when a little boy who usually doesn’t talk much was overheard talking to Whopper. By the way, the Moms like to spend time with Whopper, too. In addition to her visits with Whopper, this volunteer also tutors ladies in our Shelter Plus Program. She is dedicated and caring, and we’re VERY lucky to have her. Thank you, Debbie Glasser. (and Whopper, too!)
